Infrared Sauna

What IS an infrared sauna, what are the benefits, and is it safe?

Infrared is the band of light we perceive as heat. We cannot see this band of light with the naked eye, but we can feel this type of light in the form of heat. Infrared rays heat your body without having to heat the air in-between. This process is called   conversion.

Infrared saunas differ from traditional saunas in that they use infrared radiant energy to directly penetrate into the body’s tissues without putting too much burden on the heart. Traditional saunas, however, use steam or hot rocks to heat the air inside the sauna which then heats your body. In order for this to be effective, temperatures would need to reach upwards of 190 degrees F. Infrared saunas only need a temperature of up to 120 degrees F to obtain the same effect. This lower temperature makes the environment more tolerable and allows you to breathe easier. Additionally, unlike UV rays from the sun or tanning beds, you cannot get sunburned in an infrared sauna.

Health professionals have used infrared therapy for decades in baby incubators as well as for the treatment of  muscular and joint problems. It increases blood circulation, removes toxins and mineral waste from your body and eases stress and fatigue. Infrared saunas have been found to be 7-10 times more detoxifying than traditional saunas.

Far-infrared saunas (FIRSs) are said to have many health benefits, including:

Improved heart health

FIRs increase body temperature, which dilates blood vessels and increases blood flow. This can help reduce blood pressure and improve the health of the cells that line blood vessels.

Pain relief

FIRs can help reduce inflammation and soreness throughout the body. The increased blood flow delivers more oxygen to muscles, which can help speed up recovery.

Stress relief

The act of sitting in an FIR can be a form of meditation, which can help reduce stress and anxiety.

Weight loss

One study found that people who used an FIR sauna three times a week for 30 minutes per session lost an average of 4 percent body fat over four months.

Improved appearance of cellulite

FIR heat energy penetrates deeper than traditional saunas, which can help reduce cellulite.

Better sleep

The relaxation that comes from using an FIR sauna can help you sleep better

Our sauna is complimentary to guests receiving spa services, or you may come in for the sauna use only.  30 mins. $25
